Native Irish language integration is coming to PrimaryWeb.ie
A complete Irish-language experience for your school website
We’re delighted to announce that full native Irish-language support is coming to PrimaryWeb.ie within the next week.
From the beginning, PrimaryWeb has been designed specifically around the needs of Irish primary schools. Providing a genuinely useful Irish-language experience is an important part of that.
Rather than relying on automated translation for the platform itself, the core PrimaryWeb system is being professionally translated into Irish. Schools will be able to choose Irish as their default language, covering both the public-facing school website and the administration dashboard used by staff to manage it.
This means schools choosing Irish will be able to manage their website through Irish too — adding news, uploading policies, managing galleries, updating key dates and carrying out the everyday tasks involved in keeping a school website up to date.
More than just translating the public website
For Gaelscoileanna, and for schools that want to place the Irish language at the heart of their online presence, we wanted to go further than simply translating what visitors see.
The goal is to provide a native experience from beginning to end. Staff can work within an Irish-language dashboard, while parents, pupils and the wider community can visit a school website whose interface and core elements are presented in Irish.
Schools remain in control of the content they add, so news stories, school information, policies and other material can be written and maintained in the language appropriate to their school community.
For teachers, parents and anyone passionate about the Irish language, we hope this makes PrimaryWeb another small way of helping Irish remain part of everyday school life — including the technology schools use.
And for multilingual school communities?
PrimaryWeb also includes Google Translate as standard for public-facing school websites.
Schools can make additional languages available to visitors, helping parents and family members from different language backgrounds access school information more easily.
The distinction is important: Irish is being integrated natively into PrimaryWeb and professionally translated, while additional international languages can be made available to website visitors through Google Translate.
